Unique natural phenomenon
Off Finland’s south-west coast lies one of the country’s most amazing and unique regions. The Turku Archipelago consists of over 20,000 islands, and is a stunning area of natural beauty.
A popular summer pastime for Finns, aswell as foreign visitors, is to cycle a circular route hopping from island to island and staying overnight in some beautiful natural locations.

Turku - busting city
The route begins in Turku, Finland's second city, and a bustling place in summer, with a wide selection of bars and restaurants, and lots to discover from its medieval castle to its imposing cathedral.
Getting out of the city is made easy with a well-developed system of bike lanes which take the passenger all the way to the first ferry journey.
The ferry network acts like bridges keeping the islands connected with regular departures (although some skill can be needed to decipher the timetables!)
As you pedal further to outlying islands, it can feel quite remote, but there are gems of small boutique hotels to find with some excllent local cuisine that attract many from the mainland.
Just before the enod of the journey comes Naantali, with a well-preserved Old Town and a selection of atmospheric restaurants around a peaceful harbour. You might even meet some of the famous Moomin characters here.
